A Curse So Dark and Lonely

Hello! Happy Monday. My day has been pretty good so far. I got to get off work early to go to an appointment. I have signed up to be a human guinea pig in a vaccine study. So I can get a little extra cash on the side. So that was good. Then I had to do a little grocery shopping, got myself a pita and now I’m watching some TV while my hair is dyeing. 🙂 The red had faded to a cotton candy like pink. I don’t think my skin tone does well with lighter colors. So back to a maroon-ish red.

Today, I wanted to talk about the first book I read that came from a fairyloot box. I was subscribed to fairyloot for about a year before I stopped to save some money. But every once in awhile I see a box that just intrigues me. And, I have all these books that I’ve never read, then they started doing the read-a-longs and I wanted to get in on that. But I hadn’t been able to do it yet because I was always in the middle of a book. But I made it so I could get into this amazing Beauty and the Beast retelling.

This book is about Harper and Rhen. Rhen is the crown Prince of Emberfall and has been cursed by an evil witch to make someone fall in love with him. He doesn’t know how long he has, but the time limit is the season. So… Day 1 he is human and has his choice of who he is going to try to woo. Then as the season goes on he gets closer and closer to turning into a monster. And the monster is different every time. And after he turns and bad things happen the season is over and it resets. We start the book after about 5 years worth of seasons. And Grey can world hop to Washington DC to get ladies for Rhen. Harper comes in because she see’s Grey in action with a drugged girl and tries to stop him from doing whatever harm he is going to do to this lady. Then she is in Emberfall. And so the story begins, seriously you learn all of this within the first couple of chapters.

If you participated in the fairyloot read-a-long then I would love your opinion on the book. I, personally, loved it. The different POVs and adding Washington DC into a book about a fantasy world. Jumping from one to the other. Man oh man! I loved this. Plus, the main character having cerebral palsy. It is just great. We need to normalize the differences in society just like this. Harper was so fierce and everyone followed her because of it. No one questioned her (much) about what she could or couldn’t do. But, my favorite character is Grey. He has wit and is funny. At first I didn’t think much of him, he was very 1 dimensional. But as the story went on his character filled out a lot more. Then the end happens, which I kind of guess when it was suggested.

But, super easy read. Really fast to get through and I already want the sequel! So drop a comment on what you think of the book or if it is in your tbr pile! I do highly recommend it, I mean I wouldn’t write about a book if I didn’t like it. Plus the cover is gorgeous. You can find me on insta @ positivityandbooks or on Litsy @ ryeannuh

PS its Game of Thrones season! I love hearing what everyone took out of the episodes! Maybe you caught onto something I didn’t.

After 2 weeks…

Hello everyone! Happy Monday. I am sorry to keep you all hanging for the past couple weeks. I have been having some mental health issues. So, I just had to step away to take care of that. But I am feeling much better now and am ready to catch you up. So today we are going to see what I read in March and plan to read in April!

So, in March, I read 8 books plus 3 audiobooks. I was not prepared for that number when I went gathering them up for the picture! 😀 There are 4 comics, 4 books and the one I am currently in the middle of. So I got all but This Savage Song read that was on my March tbr. I am pretty excited about that. I am currently in the middle of A Curse so Dark and Lonely. I started it with the Fairyloot readalong but decided I didn’t want to keep that schedule. But since I had started the book I needed to finish it. Lol. I also added 2 comics, Fables and Ms Marvel Vol 3. They were great! As always.

Pss.. I can’t figure out how to rotate this picture. It won’t let me like the other one… :/

Onto April! So I have these on my tbr right now. Along with the Tahereh Mafi ebook Shadow Me, I want to read that before I jump into Defy Me. I am also really excited to jump back into the world of The Rook in Stiletto! And since I was having some of my own issues I decided to pick up 10% Happier, and do some mental wellness. 🙂

Well I hope today’s post was everything you wanted. Once again I am sorry I didn’t get around to posting the last couple of weeks but since I am on the road to wellness hopefully I won’t have too many more bouts. Leave me a comment on what you are reading this month and follow me on the socials! Insta @ postivityandbooks and Litsy and @ RyeAnnUh

Pre-Orders

Hello, all you wonderful people. I hope everyone is staying warm in this crazy winter weather we are having here in the mid-west.

So I totally forgot today was Monday because I had the day off of work for President’s day. So I’ve been super lazy all day. And I didn’t know what I was going to write about until just 2 seconds ago. 😀

I want to talk about books that I have pre-ordered already! Everything exciting coming out!

So far this year I have preordered:

Children of Virtue and Vengeance by Tomi Adeyemi– the sequel to Children of Blood and Bone (Out June 4, 2019).

Shades of Magic Vol 1: The Steel Prince by V E Schwab– this is the graphic novel of her Darker Shades of Magic series (Out March 5, 2019).

Rick and Morty Vol 9 by Kyle Starks– This is the comic version of the TV Show (Out June 25, 2019).

Defy Me by Tehereh Mafi– #5 in the Shatter Me series (Out April 2, 2019).

Broken Throne by Victoria Aveyard– A set of novellas from the Red Queen series, also includes the 2 previously published novellas Cruel Crown (Out May 7, 2019).

The Shadowglass by Rin Chupeco– #3 in the Bone Witch series (Out March 5, 2019).

The Institute by Stephen King. A standalone novel that I’m not quite sure what genre it falls into, but it sounds amazing. (Out September 10, 2019)

And one that I should have pre-ordered but it somehow passed me by was Lady Smoke by Laura Sebastian– #2 in the Ash Princess trilogy(? I think its a trilogy). That came out Feb 5, 2019. But I just got it last Tuesday the 12th.

What books are you all excited about? I know there are lots more that are coming out that I am excited for, like the next Stalking Jack the Ripper novel but I have’t read Escaping from Houdini yet so I haven’t pre-ordered it. I also did not pre-order On the Come Up by Angie Thomas but I bought that the day after it came out. I am also super excited for the sequel to An Absolutely Remarkable Thing by Hank Green. Drop a comment below so I can get excited with you about your favorite books/series!

2 in 1

Hello. I hope everyone had a great weekend. Did you watch the Superbowl? (if not, it was super boring!) I have a twofer for you today, since I didn’t post last week. I am starting to workout again and get myself on a better eating schedule… We will see how long that lasts. But today I am going to show you my first book haul of the year (which was what I was going to post last week) and my February reading list. 🙂

Here is my book haul!

January bookhaul

I grabbed these amazing books when Barnes and Nobles was having a 50% off sale! Everything there was less than $70. The Selection series, A Very Large Expanse of Sea, Damsel, Grim Lovelies, and Escaping from Houdini. I don’t know much about .. all but Escaping from Houdini. Lol. But they are popular and were on sale.

February reading list

And this is what I plan to read this month! I completed about 5 books in January so I am hoping I can get through all of these. I am already about 100 pages into Mother Knows Best. And I can’t wait to dive back into Amy’s Oz and see what happens next.

What is on your tbr this month? Any new exciting books you are looking forward too?

Review 2018

Hello my amazing readers!

I hope everyone had a great holiday season. I am sorry I was supposed to be back last week but I had a death in the family, so… Yea. But it happens and we all learn to live.

So today I am not reviewing another book I am going to show you everything I read last year! And list my top 5. I am not going to list everything because… well thats alot! Lol. 76 to be exact. I think thats the most I have read in a year.

  1. Vicious by V E Schwab
  2. Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi
  3. Heartless by Marissa Meyer
  4. The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
  5. An Absolutely Remarkable Thing by Hank Green
  6. The Storyteller by Traci Chee

Okok. There are six. It was really hard to narrow down. Others that almost made it were A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sara J Maas, Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi. I can’t wait to see what all books I am going to read this year. I already have quite a few pre-ordered!

What are all of you looking forward to ? Any new year’s book resolutions? I am starting a new way I choose my books to read. At the beginning of the month I am choosing my TBR list for that month. I used to …just pick one that looks good, or sometimes I’d number my shelves then roll a die and pick something on that shelf. Lol. So, that’s my new year resolution for my books.

Perfect Chemistry

If you are looking for a great realistic romance novel this is a great choice.

Perfect Chemistry is set in a smaller town where if you were born on the wrong side of the tracks you are either poor or a drug dealer. Everyone knows that. When Brittany is paired up with Alex there is going to be trouble. Brittany is a good white girl from the North side and Alex is a mexican with a reputation. From the second they meet in Chemistry class there are sparks.

Obviously since this is a romance you can probably guess how it ends but reliving that high school experience was crazy for me. There are best friends, crazy gangs, backstabbing, and sleepovers. Now I went to a teeny tiny high school (22 kids in my graduating class). So I didn’t have near any of the drama as was in this book so that is probably a good thing. But I love reading about it.

There are 3 books in this series and all 3 focus on different characters. Rules of Attraction focuses on Alex’s middle brother, Carlos in Colorado. And the last book Chain Reaction focuses on Alex’s youngest brother, Luis. So they all intertwine with each other but I don’t think you have to read them in order.

Perfect Chemistry

Favorite Character: Alex Fuentes

Quote: “This is Brittany Ellis … This summer she went to the mall, bought new clothes so she could expand her wardrobe, and spent her daddy’s money on plastic surgery to enhance her, ahem, assets. Her secret desire is to date a Mexicano before she graduates.” -Alex

Afterworlds

A book with an entire book in it! So great!

This is the first Scott Westerfeld book I have read. The Uglies have been sitting on my shelf for a few years now but I just haven’t ever picked it up. I got this on clearance at B&N. It was super cheap and once I saw it was a book in a book I had to have it!

So it is about a girl named Darcy who started writing a book (Afterworlds) her junior/senior year of high school and got a book deal! Darcy then moves to NYC with her big fat check from the publisher and finds out how the real world is. While in her book Lizzie is in the middle of a terrorist attack and wills her way into the afterworld.

That is a pretty short synopsis but with how the book is alternating chapters between the real world and Darcys book it is difficult not to give too much away. I have heard about books about books but never a book within a book. It was fantastic and I want more! Like, seriously if you know about any books with books in them I want to read them! 😀

This book gave a pretty nice and clear picture of what it would be like to live in NYC with a fat bank account, and the struggles with keeping that bank account in check. Darcy has a sister that helps her with her accounting and I love that. With her account and not having a real job(getting a paycheck every week or so) she has to ask her sister what her budget is like if she spends $X to go out to eat, or buy a new plant. It give the book that extra realistic feel to it.

The copy I have also has a deleted chapter which is cool but its Chapter 4… So you read both the books then go to the end and try to remember exactly what was happening at chapter 4 to figure out why it was deleted and what changed. Lol. But I also like that, having a look into the rough draft.
